This formula is reminiscent of other oldtime formulas, but is safe because the eggs are cooked.
Mix the following ingredients together
4 egg yolks
1-2 Tbsp. cornstarch
1/3 cup dark Karo syrup (if unavailable, use corn syrup)
2 cups evaporated milk or goat milk (goat milk preferred)
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
Cook mixture on stovetop at low temperature, stirring frequently, and take it off the burner as soon as you see the first bubbles - this is important.
Pudding may be thinned as necessary for newborns or very young puppies. Thin with Pedialyte (or other unflavored infant electrolyte solution) or plain water. I strain it through a fine sieve so that I can use it either for tube feeding or bottle feeding.
NOTE: DO NOT HEAT FORMULA IN MICROWAVE. TO HEAT, PUT DESIRED AMOUNT IN A SMALL CUP OR BOWL AND SET IN HOT WATER.
If desired, add a pinch of acidophilus powder (refrigerated type) just before feeding, not before. Heat will kill the cultures. Note that most brands contain a number of cultures in addition to acidophilus - this is GOOD. "bifidus" in particular has advantageous to newborns.
